Fallen Soldier

As I was walking Larry this morning on our usual am stroll, I stopped off to pick up the mail. Hands full with what must have been a week’s worth of unopened correspondence, I began to make my way back home. As I strolled through the long narrow hallway, Larry got excited at the sight of an approaching neighbor. Unable to contain himself he stepped right in front of me, breaking my stride and causing me to lose my balance. As I fell face forward onto the hard, carpeted floor, I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Just two days earlier I had experienced more than my share of spills on the Mammoth snow and now here I was back on land and on the floor of Avenue one. To add to my embarrassment, my unsuspecting neighbor who was on her way to work witnessed the entire act. There I was, mortified and on the floor, scrambling to gather my mail and my composure as Larry ran circles around me tangling me up in his leash and adding to my humiliation. “Are you okay?” she asked as I attempted to get up, untangle myself and pretend the whole thing didn’t happen. “I think so,” I replied as we both laughed at the comical scene I had managed to create. I’m soooooooo embarrassed!!!!!
